I gave a talk a few weeks back on the role of soundscape in sensory architecture at the University of Manchester and it the lecture is mentioned in a blog post at Smell and the city, by Dr Victoria Henshaw (with a picture of me in full lecturing flow!). The lecture aimed to inform students about the importance of sound (not just noise) when designing a space or building. This is not just the impact that the space might have on the existing soundscape, but the importance that effective sound design can bring positive experience and associate to the place. Sound can also be used to mask problematic 'noise' within a space, and also contribute to a sense of pleasure for those immersed in the space. Sound is not something that should be considered an after thought to the visual, but as a sensory experience which can reinforce the visual aesthetic.You can also view the presentation here....
