SOMA Ether V2 1st Test - Walking down the Middlewich canal

I have been out and about with my new SOMA Ether v2 electro-magnetic field microphone for it's first test, listening to and uncovering hidden sounds along the Middlewich canal, from trees, signs, factories and gates. It is really insightful to hear how much electromagentic radiation from outside the human hearing frequency range is present in a ‘natural’ environment.

Of course, there was some interference from the digital gear I was carrying (camera, mobile phone…although it was on airplane mode and recorder), but it was interesting to hear how much came from the environment. (Note I tried to keep the gear as far away as possible from the SOMA) I love the fact that there is so much potential for this when I take it into a really ‘electrical’ environment. I am hoping to use the SOMA for a new sound library.

I am still getting used to it, and excited to start using it indoors with random electrical items! I will also post a video of the walk, with the actual soundscape mixed in!

I still need to spend some more time getting used to the gain controls and also probably need to be carrying a bit less digital gear with me. That's for the next test! Watch this space.
