Train station // Binaural soundscape
*** Listen with headphones for the best experience. ***
This recording was made on the 19/02/2007 at Manchester Piccadilly train station.
I love the buzz and vibrance of a train station platform. There is always so much to take in sonically, but often we are distracted by the hustle and bustle of what is going on as we wait. I find soundscape recordings of train stations give you another insight and perspective to the inner workings of our hive like behaviour at transport hubs.
I have always been an urban wanderer, exploring cities and places, not with a map, but by following my instincts. As a researcher, soundwalking has formed the basis of the majority of my soundscape methodologies and a form which I have been practicing and recording for nearly 20 years. Derive is part of who I am and following in the footsteps of Guy Debord and Iain Sinclair, I am releasing my soundwalk recordings.
These recordings are in the psychogeographic tradition of unplanned wandering, or drifting, in this case just sitting and observing the hustle and bustle of a Manchester Piccadilly train station.
This recording was made in 3D binaural sound (you'll need headphones for the best experience), so just sit back and close your eyes and imaging being outside.
Recording gear // Olympus LS10 and Soundman OKM Classic II microphones.
